■ Kim Seong-nyeo's Madangnori - Sim Chong and Chunhyang are Coming

On September 16th, the traditional play, "Kim Seong-nyeo's Madangnori - Sim Chong and Chunhyang are Coming", will be held in Sokcho, Gwangwon province.

The play, which Kim Seong-nyeo, the Korean folk song player, rewrites two Korean classical novel, ‘The Tale of Sim Chong’ and ‘Chunhayngjeon’, encouraging audiences to engage in the play.

■ 2023 Yangyang Surf Contest

2023 Yangyang Surf Contest, is being held at 5 beaches in YangYang, Gwangwon province. The Contest is hosted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Gangwon provincial office and YangYang county office.

The competition will consist of shortboard, longboard, and SUP board (paddleboard) contests, with about 120 surfers and club members participating to show off their skills they have honed so far.

The Contest began with the longboard preliminary round on August 30.

The winner of longboard and shortboard will be awarded 3 million won each. Runner-up participant will be awarded 1.5 million won. For SUP board contest, the winner and runner-up will be awarded 1 million won and 50K won respectively.

■ Sokcho City launches a vacation program in Seorak-dong

Sokcho City, Gangwon Province, announced on August 31 that it will operate a 3-day vacation program called ‘Check IN Seorak’ in Seorak-dong in September.

The program is a part of the 2023 regional tourism activation project and aims to respond to the changing tourism trend by offering a leisure-type (forest-type) vacation program centered on Mount Seorak.

The program provides participants with a ‘vacation experience package’ that includes a 2-person 1-room accommodation and a shared office in Seorak-dong, a Seorak cable car and cafe voucher, and a Mount Seorak forest commentary experience voucher. Eco-friendly electric bicycles are also available for rent at a discounted price for those who wish.

The city expects to attract residents who want to work remotely and enjoy vacation at the same time, and revitalize Seorak-dong during the off-season by utilizing the new tourism trend of vacation.
