▲ 2023 Yangyang Surfing Festival to be held on the 28th

The 2023 Yangyang Surfing Festival will be held on the 28th at Surfy Beach in Junggwangjeong-ri, Yangyang, a sacred place for surfers.

The festival is hosted by Yangyang-gun, organized by the Gangwon State Surfing Association, and supported by Gangwon State, and has been held every year since last year except for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 from 2014 to the present, signaling that surfing is the present and future of the marine leisure sports industry.

In conjunction with the 2023 Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Boat Surfing Competition, which has been held since August, the festival has established itself as the most meaningful event for surfers to further develop into a mecca of surfing.

The 2023 Minister of Oceans and Fisheries' Surfing Competition consists of shortboard, longboard, and SUP board (paddleboard) events, with more than 120 surfers and amateur surfers participating to please visitors' eyes by showing off their skills to their fullest, and the final is left in November.

In addition to surfing hobbyists, the festival consists of various events such as △ beach clean activities for marine environment purification △ surfing experience △ beach yoga experience △ after-party.

The major event, the beach yoga experience, will be held at 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. for 40 pre-applicants, and the surfing experience will also be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for 60 pre-applicants. These experiences will also receive on-site applications only for those who are lacking on the day of the event.

At 3 p.m., there was a time to hear from surfers Song Jae-hyung, Sung Bo-kyung, Lim Soo-jung and Canoa about their "best tips for surfing."

In particular, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., a beach clean event, a trash pick-up event on the beach will be held from time to time. To surfers, BeachClean will naturally spread the meaning of marine environment protection to visitors, informing them that it is not a special event but a very casual and lasting culture.

From 6 p.m., an after-party (DJ & Live) will be held to decorate the festival's splendid finale, where participants will match.

A festival official said, "We have prepared a surfing festival in Yangyang, the holy place of surfing, to present pleasant memories to surfers and tourists," adding, "I hope many people will come and see the open sea and enjoy the festival and heal."
