A festival where you can taste the representative foods of Sokcho in one place will be held.
Sokcho City will host the ‘2023 Sokcho Food Festival’ from October 6 to 8 at the Expo Tower Plaza, where various flavors of the region will be presented in one place. The Sokcho Food Festival, which will be held for the first time this year, will be held under the subtitle ‘Masupda! Sokcho’ (meaning ‘delicious’ in Gangwon dialect) and will feature ‘Sokcho’s representative foods’ and ‘eco-friendly festival’.
Sokcho’s representative foods include seven of the 10 ‘Sokcho’s flavors’ introduced in the book ‘Masupda! Sokcho’ published by the Sokcho Culture and Tourism Foundation (squid sundae, buckwheat noodles, chicken gangjeong, tofu, soy sauce noodles, potato ongsimi, and raw fish). In addition to the foods featured in the book, six more representative foods such as red crab soy sauce crab, five desserts and drinks, craft beer, and two specialties (dried fish and salted fish) will be offered at a total of 20 food booths.
The city plans to show the numerical effect of carbon reduction by providing reusable containers that have been sterilized at high temperatures for an eco-friendly food festival, and also prepare various carbon-neutral programs such as providing eco-friendly souvenirs to visitors who bring their own tumblers or food containers, and operating eco-friendly booths.
Visitors can return the used containers to the reusable container collection box installed at the venue after eating. A separate sink for personal container washing is also available. In addition, the city plans to minimize waste generated at the festival by prohibiting external food and plastic entry into the venue (one PET bottle of 500ml or less per person is allowed).
Lee Byung-seon, mayor of Sokcho City, said, “This year’s 2023 Sokcho Food Festival is planned to be eco-friendly as it is the first year to evaluate the sustainability of future festivals.” He also said, “I hope you enjoy and heal yourself with various flavors of Sokcho as it is a food festival of Sokcho.”
