Sokcho City selected for future intangible heritage project for ‘Dondolari’
Sokcho City announced on September 5th that ‘Sokcho Dondolari’ was selected for the future intangible heritage project by the Cultural Heritage Administration for the third consecutive year.
The project aims to prevent the loss of non-designated intangible heritage and to create conditions for inter-Korean exchange and cooperation through research, education, and support. ‘Sokcho Dondolari’ is a folk song that was passed down by refugees who settled in Sokcho during the Korean War. It is a song that they sang to comfort their pain of leaving their hometown.
‘Sokcho Dondolari’ is considered an alternative to preserve the original form of ‘Dondolari’, which has been lost in North Korea. The city has been working with related organizations and groups such as Sokcho Culture Center and Sokcho Dondolari Preservation Association to carry out the project.
