The 2024 Yangyang Surf Festival will be held on the 24th at Surf Beach in Junggwangjeong-ri, Yangyang, a sacred place for surfers.

"The Yangyang Surfing Festival, which marks its ninth anniversary this year, is one of Yangyang's signature summer festivals where surfers can enjoy beach culture and performances at the same time, and it has established itself as a meaningful event to help Yangyang become a sacred place for surfing, and to end the year for surfers," Yangyang-gun said. "This year's festival is hosted by Yangyang-gun, organized by the Yangyang-gun Surfing Association, supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Gangwon State, and has been held every year except for 2020 and 2021, which were not held due to COVID-19 from 2014 to the present."

The opening ceremony of the festival will be held from 2 p.m. on the 24th to announce the start of the "2024 Yangyang County Governor's Cup International Surfing Competition," which will be held from September. On the same day, various events such as silk screen, DIY workshops, makeup & tatoo (free event), and local craft market will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. so that visitors can enjoy the festival together. The after-party (night performance) will be held from 7 p.m., and special guests of the performance will include Cho Kwang-il, Synth, Oban, and TPA to boost the excitement of visitors.

On the 25th, the next day, the surfing experience will be free for 50 people on a first-come, first-served basis from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and the beach yoga experience will be free for 20 people on a first-served basis at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively.

Yangyang-gun County Cup International Surfing Competition will be held for five days during the wave days from September to November, and one day each at Insu Beach, Seorak Beach, Mulchi Beach, Namae 3-ri Beach, and Jukdo Beach, and the schedule of the competition will be confirmed three days before the event depending on the presence or absence of waves. About 120 people will participate in three shortboard, longboard, and SUPboard (paddleboard) events, and they will compete with the international rules of the game. "I hope travelers and surfers visiting Yangyang Sea will have pleasant memories through this festival and the Yangyang County Ship International Surfing Competition."

A county official said, "We continue the event every year to continue to grow the surfing industry, the representative marine leisure sports in the region," and added, "I hope many people will come and enjoy the festival while looking at the open Yangyang sea."
